SEAX by Jean-Marie Massaud is folding lounge and dining seating designed to mirror the performance and elegance of competition-class racing yachts. Compact, lightweight, and ingeniously crafted to open and shut with a push-button smooth gliding motion, these award-winning director's chair style seats and sleek sporty dining and lounge tables borrow liberally from the design and textural language of sailing vessels.
The sling seat and back are water-resistant yachting textile. Steam-bent teak armrests capture the effortless motion of a "[boat hull] gliding without resistance" in the words of Massaud. Precision-engineered to lock into place, SEAX’s lightweight yet sturdy aluminum frames close with ease at the press of a button. The chairs are distinguished by beautiful stainless-steel detailing, colored powder-coatings to resist scuffs, and a swiveling back for extra comfort.
In keeping with the elegant minimalism of the chairs, Massaud has created a selection of streamlined SEAX dining and coffee tables in a versatile range of sizes. The tables feature a sleek aluminum base, slanted legs and a choice of tabletops. One top is made of premium slow-growth teak. The other consists of a single, self-supporting slab of mineral composite material, cut by water jet from the largest premium sintered porcelain slabs available on the market.Â
Teak tabletops consist of premium teak. The sealant used between the teak slats are the same as those widely used on yacht decks and are designed to expand and contract with teak's natural movement.
